Dot NAME Domain Names

Introduced in 2001, the Dot NAME generic top-level domain name extension is the single TLD supposed to be for personal sites only. These domains can include personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other designations people are known by. At the beginning, only third-level registrations were allowed, so if you planned to register john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already taken 3rd-level names remained working.
